Tamarindo Backpackers is a beautiful boutique surf hostel in a gorgeous yellow hacienda. It is next to a national park, so you can see and hear howler monkeys in the trees while you relax in our jacuzzi pool. We are Lonely Planet's top choice for a hostel in Tamarindo.
Aside from the beautiful pool, we have lots of hammocks and sun chairs, a kitchen for guests to use and a big lounge room where you can meet guests from all over the world. We also have a night security guard so the hostel is very safe.
We have our own private surf instructor Elias, who offers lessons for much less than the shops. He can also arrange trips for you to surf other beaches, even Witch's Rock and Ollie's Point! Our friendly bilingual reception staff can recommend and help you book any other activities you would like to do here in Tamarindo.
Tamarindo Backpackers is located in the heart of Tamarindo. We are just a 5 minute walk to one of the best surfing beaches in Costa Rica. In Tamarindo you can find a wide variety of restaurants and loads of fun bars for whatever kind of party you are looking for.
The hostel has 2 mixed air conditioned dorms, one with 8 beds and one with 12 beds. Each dorm has air conditioning, a private bathroom with shower and large single beds with real spring mattresses. The dorms are cleaned daily.
We have 2 private rooms, each with a shared bathroom. The private rooms sleep 4 people with a queen bed and a bunk bed. Both rooms have high ceilings and freshly painted walls with custom artwork.

One of my favorite hostel experiences. The place is basic, the beds seem a bit old, but everything else makes up for it. The staff are incredible, they are all super friendly, it feels like a family from the first day. Everyone hangs out and you'll make friends so quickly, we all cooked together, went out together, went to see the sunset at the beach, had a movie night. The pool is a great addition in this heat, and the kitchen is well equipped. They helped me book a shuttle and scuba diving.

Amazing staff, friendly people, good location, smaller hostel, chill communal vibe (not a party atmosphere). Enjoyed staying here! Only problem was security, no lockers in rooms just 6 big ones for entire hostel in the back, and tiny ones in the kitchen. It’d be great to add medium/ big lockers in the rooms.

I really enjoyed my stay at Tamarindo backpackers. The staff were so friendly and welcoming. The rooms/ bathroom / kitchen were kept clean. The bathroom was a good size but the dorms are a little cramped. The hostel is very social and I met some great people while there. There is enough space to hangout together on tables or sun loungers and a couple of hammocks if you just want to chill. Good location a few mins walk from the beach and supermarket. Did a boat trip through the hostel which was fun. I would
